Two German Masters:Beethoven&Brahms


In our very first classical recital for 2018, Music Salon Emmanuel proudly presents pianist Dr. Oh Yann Shie and violinist Oleksandr Korniev, who will be accompanied by pianist Yuliana Rumiantseva, in an intimate setting. Their repertoire will be a juxtaposition of music from two German Masters, Beethoven and Brahms, with the Fazioli taking centre-stage.

DR OH YANN SHIE :"I would definitely want to hear more of you", remarked Gary Graffman after her performance at the Oxford Piano Festival in July 2009. A third prizewinner at the 2008 Nikolai Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Paris, Yann Shie is the only Malaysian by far, who holds a Doctoral Degree in Piano Performance from the prestigious Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire and two minors in voice accompaniment and chamber music. With versatility at work, Yann Shie performs, lectures,writes and had the rare opportunity to step in as Assistant Stage Manager for both the Mariinsky Ballet and Bolshoi Ballet from Russia when they debuted at the Esplanade in 2011 and 2013 respectively.
Yann Shie made her debut at the age of 13 and performed Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall Orchestra. A year later, she made her first appearance abroad at the Liszt Memorial Concert Hall in Budapest, Hungary and also as soloist with the KL Youth Orchestra in Saint-Saens’ Carnival Of Animals. Since then, she has been a frequent performer in Malaysia, playing in various concert halls including the Dewan Merdeka (Putra World Trade Centre, KL), the Komtar Auditorium and the Dewan Budaya at the University of Science in Penang.
Throughout her 10 years in Moscow, Yann Shie’s playing has taken her from the Rachmaninov House Museum Estate in Tambov to the Sheremet’yev Palace in St.Petersburg and the Prokofiev Museum in Moscow.She was a frequent performer at the Oxford Philomusica Piano Festival at the Oxford University and Nice Summer Music Festival in France between 2007-2009. In the summer of 2009, she conducted an all-Schumann lecture-recital at the Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages in Taiwan.In October 2014, she was invited to speak and conduct master classes at the National Taiwan University of Arts and Shih Chien University in Taipei.
Yann Shie has worked with internationally renowned pianists and pedagogues including Sulamita Aronovsky, Vladimir Krainev, John Lill, Xu Zhong and Patsy Toh in master classes.

OLEKSANDR KORNIEV is currently a student at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore where he studies with Prof. Qian Zhou. In 2012, he won 4th prize in Lysenko International Competition in Ukraine and was the sem-finalist of Singapore International Violin Competition in 2015. In 2016, Oleksandr won the Grand Prix of Astana International Violin Competition in Kazakhstan and 1st prize at Futian International Violin Competition in China.

In 2017 he won major prizes at Zhuhai Mozart International Violin and Piano Competition and Chengdu Invitational Violin Competition. He has attended master classes with Leonidas Kavakos, Zakhar Bron, Valeriy Sokolov, Boris Kushnir, Ivry Gitlis, Shmuel Ashkenazi, Vadim Repin, Haim Taub and Paul Rochek. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed in Ukraine, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Japan, Israel, USA, Kazakhstan, China and Singapore. Born in Ukraine, Oleksandr started learning the violin when he was 5. In 2001, he was admitted to the Kharkiv Specialized Middle Music school where he studied with Prof. Vladimir Svitchkarenko. In 2011, he was admitted to the Kiev National Music Academy where he studied with Prof. Olga Ryvnyak.

YULIANA RUMIANTSEVA is a concert pianist, piano teacher, accompanist and chamber musician. Yuliana was born in Kharkiv (Ukraine), and started learning piano at age of 4. In 2000, she was admitted to Kharkiv Secondary Specialised Music School for gifted children in the class of Prof Svetlana Zakharova. From 2011, she enrolled in National Music Academy of Ukraine in the class of Professor Yuri Kot and completed her Master Degree in 2016.

She has won major prizes in a number of international competitions, such as "Ústí nad Labem" 2003 (1st prize), "The Chords of Khortitsa"(2nd prize), "21st Century Art" (2nd prize) and many others. Yuliana regularly performs in Ukraine and abroad, as a chamber musician and an accompanist. In 2013, she premiered the works of Ukrainian composer Pavel Kolpakov and for 3 years, was a member of the Musical Society for Young Musicians and Composers "Sonor Continuos".

Since 2016, Yuliana has been living in Singapore where she continues performing and teaching.
